Sponsored by the Marines Starting the college action will be the 41st Annual National Wrestling Coaches Association All Star Classic presented by the United States Marine Corps on Nov 20th at the Dallas Convention Center Arena. Hosted jointly by three nonprofit wrestling associations (Wrestling Assn. of Arlington (host of the Lone Star Duals), National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), and Team Monday), this event will be in Texas for the very first time. It pairs the top two wrestlers at each weight in the preseason rankings in what may, in many cases, be a preliminary look at the finals of the NCAA Championships. This event will be nationally televised by CSTV and will give us a great opportunity to demonstrate the support for college wrestling in Texas. In last years event, 4 defending National Champions were defeated. In addition to the main event, there will also be exhibition competition among many area wrestlers who have gone on to successful collegiate careers. Among the competitors will be Tervel Dlagnev (Arlington HS / U. Neb Kearney), currently ranked #1 HWT in NCAA Div II. Also competing will be NCAA qualifier Will Rowe (Lamar HS / Univ. of Oklahoma) and Randi Miller (Martin HS / Neosho CC / N. Mich Olympic Training Center) who is the #2 ranked female wrestler in the nation and winner of last years OW award at the NWCA National Duals. We also expect the NCWA to hold an exhibition as well. In accordance with the goals of all of the non-profit organizations involved, any profits from this event will be given to the new UT Arlington wrestling program which will compete in the NCWA. This event will be held in conjunction with the annual reunion of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. There will be many Hall of Fame wrestlers in attendance and a dinner social will be held immediately following the event at the Blue Mesa Grill at I-75 and NW Hwy next to the NorthPark Center. This event will also be open to the public as long as tickets last. Information for the All Star Classic on Nov 20th follows: Dallas Convention
Center Arena Doors open at 5PM
Blue Mesa Grill
Tickets for both events may be purchased on the Lone Star Duals website (www.lonestarduals.com) or directly through the link (www.lonestarduals.com/NWCAClassic/allstartickets.htm) or emailing Sandy Skinner at (sskinner@ssilver.com) This will be a terrific opportunity to watch the very highest level of collegiate competition available, as well as having a chance to meet some of the legends of the sport in a one evening format. The dinner social afterward will be an opportunity to enjoy a little time with the competitors, Hall of Fame Members, and NWCA Officials as well as enjoying some great Texas cuisine at a wrestler friendly restaurant (the owner still competes!). Support for this event will show the level of support for collegiate wrestling in Texas on a national level and may allow us to do more in the future. I hope to see everyone there. |
